Welcome to Finao’s ZOMBIELAND!

It’s that time of year. The days are getting shorter. The trees are changing color (depending on where you live) and the ZOMBIEPOCALYPSE is upon us! Ok, well maybe not for real but it’s my inspiration for this week’s blog and seemed fitting for Halloween.

Rule#19: Blend in.
Now you can with our special ZOMBIELAND halloween palette. When that zombie bride comes to you for her special day…what are you going to do?

You may be all alone in the zombiepocalypse, fighting for your life, foraging for survival but there is no reason why you can’t still be fashionable either. We at Finao have developed this special palette to help you blend in (Rule#19), be ruthless (Rule#22) and will always have you checking the backseat (Rule#31) for anyone that might be trying to sneak up on you.

The Zombieland palette not only helps you blend in but travels well as a group (Rule#6) too.

Mix and match to your hearts content but beware of bathrooms (Rule#2) and don’t forget your cardio (Rule#1).

Most importantly, don’t forget Rule#32: Enjoy the little things.

Happy Halloween kiddies :)

FINAO FIRST LOOK | Fragments preview

Happy Friday!

It’s that time again and I have more sneak peeking instore for you today. Last week we looked at some of the upcoming Paraphernalia fabrics. This week I have a look at some of the new patterned leathers coming out soon, the Fragments collection.

Patterning is going to be the big key with this collection. What that means is if you are thinking of combining Fragments with another leather, that other leather should be a bit plainer to offset the pattern and let it shine. That being said, I’ve picked my top 5 choices to go with some of these new materials. Once again, there are some good runners up as well. Don’t be afraid to compare your own swatches to the new ones when these are released. Everyone has a different taste and project.

ON WITH THE SHOW AND TELL

KRUMBLE

My top 5 picks: Opaline, ‘Shroom, Havana, Dulche de Leche and CU29.

My runners up are Drifter, Firefly, Pumpkin Spice, Scotch Pine, Copenhagen, Rainy Day Woman and Junkyard Dog.

One quick note I should mention as we get started. If you plan on using any of the suedes and patent leathers, keep in mind that those particular leathers are our THINNEST leathers. You may experience a slight height difference when working with them vs. a non-suede/patent leather.

LUDICROUS

My top 5 picks here are Optimism, Scarlet O’Hara, Passion, Saturday Night Special and Miami Ink.

Runners up here could easily be Something Wicked, Red Light District or Sunday Shoes patent leathers for some extra slick punch. Keep the height difference in mind, however.

I think this leather could add a really cool graphic effect if used as a tooTone accent stripe on a plainer leather cover.

SECRET GARDEN

My top 5 here goes to Opaline, Scotch Pine, Rainy Day Woman, Havana and Junkyard Dog.

My alternate pick here was Olea Branch.

Similar to Ludicrous, I think this leather could make a cool graphic effect when used as a tooTone accent as well.

This concludes our sneak peek at Fragments. Hope we have given you some creative ideas to get you started. We should have swatch cards ready to purchase and the new materials ready to order in our system in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned for the official announcements.

Ciao for now kittens,

FINAO FIRST LOOK | A sneak peek at some of the new Paraphernalia fabrics COMING SOON!

Happy Friday kiddies!

I have a treat for you today. As some of our savvy website users have already discovered, there have been some new materials that have popped up on the website this week. That’s right, we have even more new materials JUST about ready to be launched. We do not have a set date at this time (we anticipate only a couple of weeks), however, rest assured we will be blasting the news all over the place once they are officially available.

We will actually be launching two new collections (two new swatch cards) at the same time. One card will feature a selection of uniquely patterned leathers and one card will be featuring a line of fabulously funky fabrics. I’ve got the in and I’m going to share some of those funky fabrics with you today…woohoo!

The fabric collection is called the Paraphernalia collection. Now some of you may remember our samples from WPPI and PPA from earlier this year. We have mixed the palette up a bit since then and come up with a collection featuring four black & white style fabrics and four fancifully colored fabrics. I’m going to show those colored ones today and hopefully jump start your creative processes a bit so when they are officially released you can be the first one on your block to get it…how does that sound?

HOW CAN I USE IT?

Well, first off the fabric materials from the Paraphernalia collection will be made available for use on the Finao ONE flush mount albums and the Upper Elements self mount albums.

Cover styles are going to be limited. You will be able to do a full single fabric cover, a cover with a leather spine (like the current silk tone option) or a full front cover panel (with a leather spine & back). TooTone! stripe options are not available with this material.

One point of interest you should definitely keep in mind with working with these fabrics. These are LARGE patterns. I repeat, LARGE patterns. What does this translate to? Think LARGER albums! Most if not all of these materials may not look good on small albums. You will not get the full effect of the pattern…just an FYI!

HAVE I TEASED YOU ENOUGH?

Fine, fine…let’s take a look at the fabrics already. I’ve picked my top 5 materials that I feel go well with each fabric but there are definitely extra honorable mentions for each.

INSTANT KARMA

Some of you may remember Instant Karma from our early samples at the trade shows. Yup, it made the final cut and will be in the released collection. Some other honorable mention leathers to try with this fabric would be Dubonnet, Girlie Girl and potentially even Bomber Jacket

INTO THE SEA

This is the most abstract of the new fabrics. The pattern is so large that it would be really hard to get the exact same album twice. Honorable mention leathers here include: Scotch Pine, Olea Branch, CU29 (oddly, it works), Opaline (for a higher contrast look), Bomber Jacket, Biker Chic and Krumble (this leather is featured in our new leather collection – Fragments).

MARDI GRAS

Play it down or punch it up, this in one material where you can definitely go both ways. Honorable mention here goes to Swiss Chocolate.

STAR SHINE

Who doesn’t appreciate a good flower once in awhile? We have some big ones and they also play well with Rainy Day Woman, Scotch Pine, Olea Branch and Copenhagen.

VOILA! There you have it. Your first look at some of those new fabrics. I hope it whet your appetite and gave you some ideas and I hope to see some fabulous orders come in when we offically launch the new material in a few weeks.

ciao for now…

WHAT COLORS MEAN | the winter/fall edition

As you can see the Fashion Blog had a bit of a hiatus over the last couple of weeks due to some road travel and the like but WE ARE BACK and ready to inspire those of you out there looking for some fall and winter color ideas.

In my endless search for inspiration I stumbled upon this interesting blog (theperfectpalette.blogspot.com ) that talked about what colors mean…specifically in relation to weddings. I thought it would be fun to pair up Finao leather colors with the blog’s descriptions and see what came out. I’m limiting it to just winter/fall since that is the season we are in but the blog had some great ideas for spring/summer as well. If you are planning ahead, you should check it out.

WHAT COLORS MEAN

GOLD is the color of elegance and luxury. It embodies warmth and tradition and provides an upscale, rich, intense old-world feel.

COLORS: Oplaine, CU29, Bling Dynasty, Pumpkin Spice and Something Wicked.

RED is passionate, dramatic, romantic. Try pairing it with aquas, grays or evergreens.

COLORS: Passion, Aquadisiac, Red Light District, Scotch Pine and Scarlet O’Hara

WHITE is classic and symbolizes purity, simplicity, modernity and minimalism.

COLORS: Bohemian, Optimism, Red Light District, Sunday Shoes and Something Wicked.

ORANGE is the perfect fall color and symbolizes the harvest. For fall, try pairing it with brown or copper.

COLORS: Komodo Dragon, CU29, Pumpkin Spice, Junkyard Dog and Bomber Jacket

IVORY is old-world elegance. It is soft spoken, charming and calming. This alternative to white works with almost any color.

COLORS: Pumpkin Spice, CU29, Opaline, Bomber Jacket and Miami Ink

HOT PINK is bursting with energy, fun loving, contemporary and romantic. It is good for almost any season. For fall try pairing it with a black, a chocolate brown or a slate gray.

COLORS: Something Wicked, FemmeNoir, Lusterin’ Hot, Bomber Jacket and Miami Ink

PLUM is the color of history. It’s both royal and sacred, challenging and mysterious and ever so glamorous and chic.

COLORS: Optimism, Femme Noir, Queen for a Day, Saturday Night Special and Something Wicked

SILVER compliments winter weddings to provide an elegant and upscale antique look.

COLORS: Femme Noir, Optimism, Shrike Skin, Something Wicked and Saturday Night Special

CHOCOLATE BROWN is the winter/fall alternative to black. It is rich and rustic and the perfect choice for farm or vineyard weddings. It pairs nicely with burnt orange, copper, pink and red.

COLORS: Pumpkin Spice, CU29, Bomber Jacket, Junkyard Dog and Lusterin’ Hot

BLACK is the ultimate neutral. It is sophisticated, intense, mysterious and makes a wonderful accent for a clean, strong graphic look.

COLORS: Suspicion, Optimism, Something Wicked, Passion and Miami Ink

As you can see, selecting colors isn’t always about just putting two colors you like together. Colors have meaning and emotional values and can be used effectively to create albums with those same values. It’s all in how you think about it. Anyone can make a plain black album. Can you make one that conveys an emotional response BEFORE you even open the cover? Well, that is the challenge…isn’t it? :)

Till next time…ciao.
